Obstetrics and Gynecology
This is a minimally invasive surgery to remove mostly benign tumors that appear in the uterus.
3 out of 10 women usually suffer from uterine fibroids, however the majority of cases are asymptomatic. In those who experience any pain, you should request a review for possible surgery. Request your assessment with one of our doctors.
Myomectomy is a surgery to remove myomas (benign uterine tumors, also known as uterine fibroids).
The most common symptoms are:
Very heavy and painful menstruation
Blood loss between periods
This surgery can be done as open surgery (laparotomy) by hysteroscopy or by laparoscopy.
It is usually performed by laparoscopy since it allows for greater precision, millimetric incisions and reduces bleeding.
This surgery is usually performed under general anaesthetic and usually takes between 60 to 120 minutes.
It consists of making millimeter incisions below the navel through which the surgeon inserts surgical instruments enabling him to perform the removal of the fibroid (or fibroids) without removing the uterus.
After the surgery you will be taken to the recovery room and from there to the ward where you will remain for approximately 12 to 24 hours.
Through this surgery you will be free of fibroids and, by maintaining the uterus, you will keep your chances of getting pregnant high.
The recovery period for this type of surgery is from 4 to 6 weeks. After 15 days you will have a follow-up appointment so it will be necessary for you to stay in Spain until that visit at least.
